Ms. Minwalla is a human rights and immigration lawyer with more than 20 years of experience in legal practice and international development. She represents clients in U.S. immigration matters, with a focus on asylum and humanitarian protection.
She holds a Juris Doctorate from Chicago-Kent College of Law, a Master of Arts in Applied Sociology from Loyola University Chicago, and a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations from the University of Cincinnati. Her international work has focused on gender-based violence, conflict-related sexual violence, refugee protection, and rule of law, with particular expertise in survivor-centered approaches to human rights work.
At the National Immigrant Justice Center in Chicago, she represented individuals seeking protection under the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA). She taught at the International Human Rights Law Clinic at the Washington College of Law, and was the Legal Director for the Tahirih Justice Center, supporting women and girls fleeing gender-based violence in Washington DC.
Ms. Minwalla has worked internationally in Iraq on access to justice and human rights programs supporting displaced and refugee communities with a particular focus on survivors of gender-based violence and conflict-related sexual violence.
