  • Budget Fight May Lead to Deal for "Dreamers"
    October 10, 2017

     - Christina Murdoch

As Congress attempts to pass a budget by December, the President's difficulties finding Republican votes for his budget plan may force him to make a deal with Democrats that would include new legislation to protect foreign nationals who formerly had or would have been eligible for DACA relief.  The President ended the DACA program last month and the deadline for existing DACA recipients to seek a final renewal of their DACA status expired last week.  But Democratic Congressional leaders are considering insisting on legislation to replace the DACA program in exchange for supporting a new budget.  We will keep following the situation over the coming months and more information on this development should be available in December when the current bill funding the federal government expires.
